Hughsie History

Wellingore FC was the team where many of the original Hughsie lads started. Adam Hughes joined Wellingore as his first adult team in 2001. He quickly became the captain and inspirational leader of this football club. He continued to play with the club until his tragic death in 2009.

Hughsie FC was then founded in 2009 in memory of Adam. It originally started as a 6 aside team playing at Lincoln University.

The club set up an additional team in 2011. This 11aside team played from Dunholme in the Lincolnshire Sunday Division League 2 for 3 years.

The original Wellingore team also came back together each year in an annual cup competition called the mustard custard. This game features a lot of Adams original team mates from lincoln against a XI team he played for in Cambridge, Stoke on Clare.

This annual Mustard Custard trophy continues to be played one year in lincoln and the next in Cambridge with 'social' playing a big part. This is definitely true when the lads all went to Ibiza to play the match in 2019.

Since the club started in 2009 Hughsie FC has continued to grow and develop. They have played over 600 games across Lincolnshire and beyond.

Hughsie FC have competed in 5/6/8 and 11 aside matches most recently as a 11 aside charity team.

They have raised thousands over £17k for the SADS UK charity as part of this journey to date and over £12k for other charities and community groups.

Hughsie has also won 24 league titles and 6 different cups across various formats of football in Lincolnshire and beyond.

The club now have 3 competitive adult teams with over 100 players in the squads. All 3 teams are affiliated with the Lincolnshire FA and the club is proud to have recently become FA Accredited

There are plans to continue to grow the club within grass roots and then the local community with more teams and age groups.
